A Look At The History

Online games have come of age in the way they look and sound technology. Although online games didn’t exist 75 years ago, the development in artwork and audio technology revolutionized what individuals think of video games nowadays.

Unlike what you get in online games nowadays that have awesome 3D and life like graphics and sounds, it all began with a video game called the Computer Space. This video game was launched by Nutting Associates in 1970 and was the 1st coin-operated arcade video game.

In 1972, the Odyssey 100 video game system was released. This video game could be connected to a normal television to display the graphics and play the game. In the same year Atari introduced Pong. This is a coin operated machine and is played with 2 small upright lines that you move up and down to stop the “ball” passing.

The real video game transformation began in the late 70′s. when Atari introduced the Video Computer System or the VCS (renamed Atari 2600 later). This initiative uses cartridges and had colored graphics and sounds via the tv. The game was played with a joystick or paddles.

The Atari 2600 was the most popular gaming systems invented in its era. The system was continually in such demand that retail stores frequently ran out of stock, especially on the holidays.

Yet, in the early 80′s, more and more video game manufacturers began to launch. An example would be Nintendo. Nintendo’s Family Computer was a worldwide success and sold over half a million units around the world in a short period of 2 months. In 1985, Nintendo released a similar system in the US called the Nintendo Entertainment System.

With the launch of the Nintendo Entertainment System in the USA, it also launched the Super Mario Bros. video game that was a huge smash. The Super Mario Bros. game reportedly had global sales amounting up to 40.24 million dollars and was declared the best-selling game of them all.

In the late 80′s more and more video game manufacturers began introducing their new video game systems. Sega Enterprises launched the Genesis at home video game system in the USA and was a total smash. It generated sales amounting to $14mil.

In 1995, Sony Electronics released the 32-bit CD-ROM PlayStation in the USA. It was a awesome hit and this was the start of the Sony PlayStation legacy.

The popularity of Sony PlayStation paved the way to more technologically advanced graphics systems and other video gaming systems manufacturers were quick to follow suit. The CD-ROM technology to be structured in a video game system is now the most popular way to work a video game.

Sega Enterprises and Nintendo followed with a equivalent concept of using a CD-ROM to play its games instead of using cartridges.

Sega introduced the Dreamcast video game system in Japan in 1998 with features like a 200 MHz processor, 12X speed 1 Gigabyte CD-ROM drive and a 56 kbps modem. But, it arrived too late to threaten the Nintendo 64 and the much awaited PlayStation 2.

In 2000, PlayStation launched the PlayStation 2 with immense success. About 1,000,000 units were shipped from Japan on the 1st weekend and have been one of the most popular video game systems ever released since Atari.

Other companies also followed. Nintendo launched the GameCube video game system and Microsoft launched the Xbox game system in the US. The Xbox had features that no other gaming system had. It had an 8 Gigabyte hard drive, 733 MHz Pentium III Processor and a 250MHz nVidia graphics coprocessor. Also, it was able to be connected to a broadband connection.

In 2005 Microsoft introduced the Xbox 360 video game system in the US. It includes a wireless controller, headset and a 20 Gigabyte hard drive.

So, as history would suggest video game systems are quickly advancing in graphics and audio technology. You can only wait and see what Sony, PlayStation, Nintendo and other video game system manufacturers can think of next.

[ad#250 x 250 Sqr Adsense]Blizzard have gradually been announcing more information on the upcoming Cataclysm expansion. The latest tidbit is to do with the changes we can expect to guilds.

WoW progression in other areas such as leveling and instance runs has had a lot of love from the developers over the years. It’s about time the social aspect of guilds was overhauled.

It’s pretty fundamental. It’s a massive overhaul in the way guilds work and the whole dynamic of social play. Though it’s too early to be certain, it looks like very good news indeed.

The first new point you might note is that the whole GUI for guilds is having a huge overhaul with patch 4.0. We will have a new screen added showing guild advancements through the various instances (not just end game) and new guild achievement points.

The famous guilds such as WoW Defiance and WoW Relentless are well known for having realm firsts. But only because they tell us. But what about all the other guilds with legendary atonements and realm firsts? Well from Cataclysm they will be prominently displayed on a guild ticker for all members to see. A sort of live CSS feed of events.

One area that I was particularly pleased to see was a system of bonus payments from loots being paid directly into the guild bank. I don’t know about you, but paying my 5g a day does get a little irksome. So this new system will stop that. You can allocate guild “talent points3 to a loot bonus that will increase the value and amount of loot you get, but this “extra” will be credited straight into your guild bank. Leaving you with the same amount you would always have had.

Lastly, professions are having a nice extra. You will be able to link directly into guild members professions (right down to the item level if that member is on line) No need to shout “Can someone link me Enchanting”, just check your guild tab and see who your enchanters are.

Guilds will even get achievements for progressing through professions including a grand achievement for having all professions maxxed out within the guild. Blizzard are taking social gaming and professions seriously. This has to be good news if WoW’s ascent is to continue. These issues were top of my list of things that needed careful thought, and it’s great to see that Blizzard are taking some real steps here.

So love all round for guilds here.

[ad#250 x 250 Sqr Adsense]Even though there are several addictive games on Facebook, Mafia Wars must surely be one of the best. This phenomenal game which revolves around players forming mafia families was created by Zynga, and while there are hundreds of thousands of people playing it, the game can often be confusing to newcomers.

The first task newcomers are confronted with is to the importance of growing their mafia family, and this of course is done by inviting as many Facebook friends as possible to join your family. Players can also visit pages which are specifically dedicated to growing their mafia family by means of networking. In order to gain more strength, and to complete various jobs, players must see to it that their Mafia Wars family continues to grow.

Additionally, in order to be able to understand Mafia Wars properly, players will need to learn about the importance of leveling up quickly and frequently. Generally speaking, the Mafia Wars levels will increase based entirely on points awarded for experience. In other words, points can be accumulated by completing different jobs and winning fights. In order to gain access to new jobs, inventory, and properties, players need to level up.

Jobs in Mafia Wars allow your family members to gain experience points, money, and special items. Jobs should be picked based on what the outcome of performing the job is. Jobs that gain you experience will increase your level quickly. The beginning levels don’t require many experience points to move up so picking the jobs with the most experience is a fast way to level up.

Another interesting fact is that even though certain jobs make it possible for a player to collect money, they may be required to complete the job more than once in order to get the cash. Of course your family members can also do the jobs in order to acquire more money, and as you can imagine, in order to buy more weapons you need money. If your primary concern is to get money then you need to choose jobs with big payouts.

In Mafia Wars you can also get money by buying property. A tip to buying property is to purchase it in blocks of 10. The price increases after your tenth purchase. As you accumulate more money, or wealth, you should buy bigger properties that increase the amount of money you bring in. Income increases hourly even when you are not logged on to Mafia Wars. This is helpful to keep your mafia family outfitted for fighting.

The Mafia Wars game also allows players to upgrade their mafia family, because as you level up, the boss will be awarded points which can then in turn be used to upgrade its character. Amongst the features which can be upgraded are: stamina, defense strength, maximum energy, maximum health, and attack strength.

Once you become experienced at playing Mafia Wars you can then begin to figure out methods to make your mafia family more powerful. There are jobs that advertise random loot drops which are helpful for getting necessary weapons and specialty items. One way to learn about these jobs is to surf the web for hints and special codes. There are also guides that help you navigate Mafia Wars and are worth exploring when beginning play of this game. However, just remember that there really is no correct way to play Mafia Wars. It is ultimately about having fun and socializing with your Facebook friends.

Get Mafia Wars Cheats Codes and get to be top boss faster than your friends and family and learn the real keys to dominate the game.[ad#inpost]

[ad#250 x 250 Sqr Adsense]So to progress in Warcraft you go to an area, kill mobs, loot them. Then, when your bags are full you trundle back to unload and sell. Of course it’s great if a “Green” or even better a “Blue” item drops. There are places on the net that will tell you what the chances of an uncommon or better drop are by area and mob, and you can probably work out yourself how much it’s worth. Calculating how much gold per hour you can “grind” in a particular area.

What other factors determine your gold and XP throughput? Are you aware of the factors that can seriously affect your performance? Are you, in fact, handicapping yourself by over-reaching?

Blizzard add “gold sinks” to the game to counter inflation. (Yes inflation would occur in Warcraft, and to some extent does) At level 10 re-equipping ammunition, repairing items and buying food, drink and potions costs a minimal amount. Compare that to coming back from an end game instance. Repair alone is sometimes 20g, and potions can be several gold pieces each (and you need a lot)

The push to progress is ever present in Warcraft. Like anything though, this can lead you to bad habits, and seriously slow you down in the long run. Imagine getting to level 10 and thinking;

“I’ll take on those level 11 and 12 mobs”.

Oops. One at a time was fine. Suddenly you were jumped by three, you lasted seconds. Back to the graveyard.

But you were driven to do this. The whole game shouts at you “Advance – Advance” so you did.

The truth is you over-reached. Ideally you should level against mobs one or two levels below you. That way, when you get cornered by two or three of them, you prevail, gain XP – loot and move on.

There is some simple math involved. Mobs up to 4 levels below you will yield almost 90% of the experience of a mob your level. The difference being you can easily take several lower level mobs and live, whereas more than one mob at a higher level than you is normally a real risk. Slightly lower level equates to more gold and experience per hour

Try and level against mobs between 1 and 4 levels below your own. More than 4 and the equation starts to work against you. So at level 60 consider levelling in areas where most mobs are 56-60. The fastest will be those at about 57 and 58

Don’t be concerned about missing higher level loot either. The loot might be slightly better, but this is more than countered by the fact that you will kill (and therefore loot) far fewer mobs at a higher level.

So as long as you don’t go more than 4 levels below your own, the equation is in your favour whichever way you look at it.

Try not to over-reach yourself. Ultimately levelling out of your comfort zone is slower and costlier. But of course every now and again we all want to show off.
